Our Mission

The mission of Image for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged Marin County residents, by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help local residents thrive in work and in life.

A volunteer-based organization, Image for Success was founded in 1999 to meet the needs of women in Marin County's welfare-to-work program. Since then, we have provided wardrobes for over 1,850 women and 550 children in our KIDS program since its inception three years ago.

Image for Success serves clients by referral only. Our clients are referred to us by over 45 social service agencies in Marin. Our clients come to us from a continually expanding and diverse group of non-profit and government agencies including homeless shelters, immigration services, job training programs, educational institutions, and domestic violence shelters. This list currently runs the gamut from small volunteer-run agencies like Gilead House to some of the larger agencies such as CalWorks and Homeward Bound of Marin.

On the initial visit, our clients receive a suit appropriate for the industry in which they're interviewing and, if available, accessories. Once a job is found, the client returns to Image for Success for additional clothing that can be mixed and matched to make several outfits, providing the foundation for a professional wardrobe.

Over 100 people volunteer as personal shoppers and training facilitators for Image for Success. Every one of them is dedicated to improving our clients' self-esteem through improved interview skills and business-appropriate wardrobes.

Image for Success is grateful for the support of community corporations, foundations, businesses and individuals. Our work depends on funding from private donations and grants to pay the rent and keep the lights shining. It also allows us to purchase new clothing to supplement the generous donations made by the community; and the instructional materials needed for our Work Skills and Life Skills trainings. This funding also allows us to purchase new underwear for all programs, as well as supplemental clothing in plus sizes.

With the generous support of the community, our "Men's Place" program opened in October 2005 to serve men also referred by the social service agencies.
